Contact details

Phone the BPA Kingsbury Control Room on - 01827 63708 and be prepared to provide the following information:

  • Your name and telephone number
  • The location of the incident (nearest house, farm, etc., village, town and county.
  • If possible an Ordnance Survey grid reference)
  • Are people injured?
  • What damage has been done to the pipeline?
  • Is there a fire?
  • Is it leaking?
  • Can you identify the leaking project?
  • Is there pollution to a watercourse?
  • Are the emergency services on site / have you phoned them?
  • Can you or any other person remain as our point of contact?

1 Introduction

1.1 BPA is responsible for approximately 800km of underground oil, chemical and gas pipelines in the United Kingdom . These are shown on the map.

1.2 The purpose of this booklet is to provide key information to the community at large for use in the event of an emergency involving these pipelines.

1.3 If you are in doubt about the information provided, call the BPA number below and we will be pleased to help.

1.4 BPA's Land and Wayleaves Superintendent is responsible for the distribution and periodic update of this booklet. 2 Emergency Contacts

In the event of an emergency involving one of our pipelines please contact the BPA Pipeline Control Centre. The Centre is manned at all times. Staff at the Control Centre will assist you and initiate BPA's Emergency Response System.

3 BPA Response

BPA's procedures allocate specific responsibilities to individuals in the event of an emergency and set out the sequence of actions to be followed. Please take note of the following key individuals who will make themselves known to you in the event of an incident.

3.1 Control Centre Duty Officer - Receives your emergency call - Takes immediate response actions - Acts as initial communications focal point

3.2 Incident Controller - First BPA representative at the incident site - Takes charge until the Incident Manager arrives - Initiates immediate containment measures - Provides liaison with emergency services and public - Establishes communications and reports - Identified by a yellow tabard.

3.3 Incident Manager - Line manager with overall responsibility at the incident site - Ensures the Incident Controller has adequate resources - Establishes contact with the BPA Duty Manager - Acts as BPA representative at emergency site and takes over the yellow tabard

3.4 Duty Manager - Available on call at any time - Responsible for incident communications - Informs Pipeline Owners - Informs BPA Management - Briefs BPA Press Officer

3.5 Crisis Manager - In the event of an incident of major proportions, BPA's General Manager may declare a crisis and assume overall command
