Overhead pipeline crossing removal on the Grand Union Canal
Release date

Overhead pipeline crossing removal on the Grand Union Canal

BPA is the Statutory Operator of the UKOP pipeline system. As part of the “operational risk reduction” programme of works on the 750km multiproduct pipeline network, the overhead crossing on the historic Middle Bridge no 75 at Great Haywood was removed and tied-in to a new section of pipeline. It eliminated the risk of potential environmental damage resulting from the Grand Union Canal traffic, criminal activity on the aboveground installation, or injury linked to un-authorised access by members of the general public. The crossing removal was subject of a Listed Building Consent and was carried out in accordance with its requirements.

Great Haywood Bridge – before pipeline removal.
Great Haywood Bridge – after pipeline removal.
