Pumpstation Rebuild and Pipeline Recommissioning

OIKOS Storage Limited, Pumpstation and Pipeline

Following the refurbishment of their tank farm, OIKOS identified the need to recommission their 12″ pipeline for multiproduct duty and the transportation of various grades of refined petroleum products directly into the UKOP system from their bulk fuel storage facility in Canvey Island. The associated Pump Station had to be rebuilt at the same time. Both the pipeline and the pump station had to be commissioned by the start of the London 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics due to it causing increased demand for diesel and other ground fuels.

A number of design modifications were required to either end of the pipeline to allow for the launch and receipt of the inspection tool. The inspection identified areas along the pipeline requiring further work or redevelopment. This included the removal of flange connections, replacement of Cathodic Protection insulation joints, re-coating of the pipeline in areas of deterioration and re-instalment of two valves either side of the river crossing. A section of the pipeline was also partly re-built to connect the existing refurbished infrastructure and the new Pump Station.

The new Pump Station was redeveloped in a new location and BPA undertook all design and engineering works including all aspects of mechanical, civil, electrical and control and instrumentation works in order to install three new vertical can pumps, manifold arrangement, a new pig hatch, on site hydraulic system as well as cabling and instrumentation of associated pipework, valves and buildings (including new HV and LV switchgear and Control panel). Both the pipeline and the Pump Station were commissioned and put back into operation.
